GREENVILLE, Sc. – In a battle of neighboring states, South Georgia Tormenta FC and Greenville Triumph SC met yet again in one of the most anticipated games of the USL League One weekend. Undefeated in its last two visits to Early Legacy College, Tormenta FC continued its streak, earning another victory in Greenville with tonight’s 2-0 result.
“We were not at our best tonight, although we got the win,” Tormenta FC’s Head Coach, Ian Cameron said. “The previous games in the U.S. Open Cup have made it difficult for us to play how we want to play, but I am very proud of this team and the character our players showed these past few games.”
In the 10th minute, a deflected corner from the Triumph defense led to a quick and accurate cross from Jamil Roberts, who found Arthur Bosua’s head. The South African forward unselfishly passed a pass across the six-yard box, and unmarked teammate Kingsford Adjei headed the ball into the goal. The goal is the first for the University of Dayton alum, and it is his first goal as a professional.
Fourteen minutes later, defender Curtis Thorn culminated his run through the right side of the pitch with a shot on goal deflected by the keeper, sending the shot out.
The night only continued to progress for Tormenta FC. In the 40th minute, a pass was placed by Chris Heckenberg to Arthur Bosua, who finished the shot to the corner of the opposing net, bringing the score to 2-0.
Tormenta FC went into the halftime break with a comfortable 2-0 lead and aspirations of the team’s first win of the League One season.
What followed was a much-contested second half with both teams battling it out through the midfield. Although the Triumph were in dire need of two goals to equalize the match, South Georgia’s strong defensive line pushed the Triumph’s offense away from captain Pablo Jara.
