The West Ham career of Tomas Soucek is in question following a break in relations, thanks to David Moyes’ reported intervention in contract discussions.
Soucek has been one of West Ham’s most important assets since joining the club. In his first full season as a Hammer, the midfielder bagged 10 goals.
He has followed suit this term, scoring six times so far. Included in that total was a goal in West Ham’s Europa League round-of-16 tie against Sevilla.
That strike helped West Ham to progress in the competition. They have since made it to the semi finals, and look in very good nick.
As such, it would appear Soucek remains a vital cog in the Hammers side. In fact, it was revealed in January that the club were opening talks with him over a new deal.
However, a fresh report from 90min details how Moyes put those talks on ice. The report states that the discussions are due to be opened again at the end of the current campaign.
However, it also states that the reason for negotiations being shelved was because Moyes did not feel Soucek deserved new terms.
Naturally, that throws Soucek’s future up in the air.
The Czech midfielder is, of course, not too happy about the reasons for talks being paused.
Given he feels somewhat undermined by his manager’s reported views, he could look to force his way out.
Soucek might move on from Hammers
There is a chance that this development leads to Soucek not signing a new deal at all. He is under contract until 2024, and could simply let it tick down.
There is also the possibility that West Ham could sell the midfielder. The report states that there has been interest in Soucek, with ‘at least two’ Premier League clubs considering a move.
Given his impressive performances in the English top flight, that is not much of a surprise.
Indeed, should he not want to sign a new deal at West Ham, making a move to another Premier League side could well be on the cards for him.
