Moussa Diaby transfer move weighed up by West Ham after increasing Bayer Leverkusen goal output

West Ham United are thinking of making a move for Bayer Leverkusen and France winger Moussa Diaby, according to European reports.

Moussa Diaby has been playing in Germany since 2019 after leaving hometown club Paris Saint-Germain. Consequently, the 22-year-old has earned regular gametime, making 39 appearances in his debut season with his current club.

The next year, he managed 43 outings, while this term, he has played 37 times. In each of these campaigns, his goal output has increased; his tallies have been eight, 10 and 16 respectively.

As such, several clubs are taking note of his potential to improve even further. The likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle have been linked with Diaby.

But according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, West Ham are also considering a move for him now as well.

The brief report does not provide many details of their plans. But it is made clear that their interest exists and they could come calling for him.

Diaby generally plays as a left winger, so could be a useful reinforcement for West Ham. He could operate on the opposite side to Jarrod Bowen in an exciting forward line. (That is, of course, if they can keep Bowen away from the clutches of other clubs).

Finding any kind of attacking midfielder has been on their agenda since last summer. They enjoyed having Jesse Lingard on loan from Man Utd in the second half of last season, but couldn’t get him back for this term.

His impending free agency could give them another chance, but it is not a given he would choose them again, despite his impressive spell there before.

Nikola Vlasic arrived to fill the void in the summer of 2021, but the ex-Everton forward’s first season back in English football has been just as challenging as his previous spell in the country was.

Therefore, Diaby could turn out to be an upgrade, if West Ham can prise him out of a contract with Bayer Leverkusen that should last until 2025.

There is no indication of how much that may cost.
