Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo is set to turn down the advances of Liverpool and Manchester United after confirming talks over a new deal at Barcelona will take place this week.
Reports last month claimed Liverpool and Chelsea – prior to the UK Government’s sanctioning of Roman Abramovich – had expressed an interest in the Uruguayan, whose current deal at the Nou Camp expires in the summer of 2023.
Manchester United have also been looking at the 23-year-old centre-back in their bid to sign a world-class player in his position amid the uncertainty of Harry Maguire’s long-term future at Old Trafford.

‘I am very happy to be here and happy with the support of the club,’ Araujo said after Barcelona made it six consecutive LaLiga victories following their 1-0 win against Sevilla on Sunday night.
