Arsenal and Tottenham have been given two major reasons to go head-to-head in a battle to sign Darwin Nunez, as per a report.
While the likes of Erling Haaland and Dusan Vlahovic have dominated the European headlines, another young goalscoring machine in Nunez has been tearing up Portugal. The 22-year-old has 20 goals in 22 league games this season.
What’s more, he’s helped Benfica reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Amongst his four strikes in this year’s competition was the deciding goal in their last 16 tie with Ajax. That has set up their impending matches with Liverpool.
As Haaland and Vlahovic have done, Nunez looks set for a big move in the near future.
And a whole host of Premier League clubs are interested in making that happen. Newcastle, West Ham and Manchester United have all been linked.
However, it is the north London rivals of Arsenal and Tottenham who look to be readying a swoop this summer.
Now Portuguese outlet O Jogo has provided a pair of incentives for them to do so.
The first is that despite Nunez having a €150million (£128m) release clause, Benfica would be willing to let him go for €80m (£68m).
That is a bargain price for the striker in today’s market and an achievable one for the Gunners and Spurs.
Secondly, the report provides an interesting new update on his agent Edgardo Lasalvia. His contract is running out after the end of the season.
