Manchester City look set to secure the futures of two of their top stars, with Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan close to agreeing new contracts.
City have been working hard to keep their best players in recent times, with Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones, Ruben Dias, Ederson, Joao Cancelo, as well as emerging academy stars such as Cole Palmer and James McAtee, signing new deals since last summer.
There are also major decisions to be made over the likes of Raheem Sterling, Fernandinho and Gabriel Jesus. However, it looks like Mahrez and Gundogan are going nowhere fast.
The Daily Star reports that the pair are expected to put pen-to-paper and extend their respective stays at City past 2023.
Mahrez, 31, has been on PSG’s radar for some time, while Barcelona were also recently linked with the winger.
The attacker has been City’s main attacking threat this term. He has scored an impressive 22 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions.
Gundogan sees long-term City future
Meanwhile, Gundogan admitted recently that he can imagine himself staying at City beyond the end of his existing deal.
The 31-year-old has been an integral part of Pep Guardiola’s squad for years. However, he’s found starts hard to come by this season.
The outstanding form of Kevin de Bruyne and Bernardo Silva has limited his chances. Rodri, meanwhile, has completely nailed down the holding role.
