BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – With the 2022 Major League Soccer season up and running, 10 more former Indiana men’s soccer student-athletes are looking forward to new seasons in domestic leagues.
The United Soccer League Championship is set to kick off on Saturday (March 11) with seven Hoosiers in on the action. Then, on March 25, MLS Next Pro will open its inaugural season as three former Indiana soccer players suit up for Major League Soccer affiliates.
Three former Hoosiers will make their professional debuts this season. A member of IU’s 2021 team, Joe Schmidt signed a contract earlier this month with USL side Charleston Battery.
The other two debuts will come in MLS Next Pro. Schmidt’s IU teammate Spencer Glass earned a spot with Sporting Kansas City II this winter. A four-year player for IU between 2016 and the 2020-21 spring season, A.J. Palazzolo will begin his pro career in his hometown with St. Louis CITY2, the second team for the expansion club coming to MLS in 2023.
